Université Paris Cité

The Université Paris Cité  Medical School is the largest medical school in France, the result of the merger in 2020 of Paris Descartes and Paris Diderot Universities (https://u-paris.fr/en/).

Université Paris Cité is a university with a long established emphasis on research and is affiliated with research institutions, such as the Imagine Institut (https://www.institutimagine.org/en/) and the Pasteur Institut (https://www.pasteur.fr/en).

The Université Paris Cité medical system (https://u-paris.fr/medecine/hopitaux-universitaires/) hosts 11 acute care hospitals, including two children’s hospitals (Necker Enfants malades and Robert Debré hospitals), 3 long-term care facilities, six maternity, three neurosurgery and neuroscience institutions, with basically all medical and surgical specialties represented.

We welcome more than 700 students annually in the medical school, for a six-year curriculum prior to residency specialization. The first three years encompass fundamental learning (anatomy, pathophysiology, histology, etc.) while the remaining three last years are clinical. After completing the required six years, students are then required to pass an exam, which then allows them to apply for residency programs in the specialty of their choice. During the six-year curriculum students have the option of completing a master’s degree or a PhD. The Université Paris Cité Medical School, in partnership with INSERM also offers an MD-PhD program.
