Topic - Public Health Challenges

Goal - Learn about your own country's and the partner countries' Public Health challenges

In this session you will discuss and learn about general Public Health challenges in your and your partners' countries. If you do not know much look it up and share your new knowledge!

Session 3 - Discussion topics (selection of choices); you can also select a healthcare topic that is not listed.These may overlap with Global Health

Public Health Challenges

• Aging (note there will be separate session dedicated to this topic)

• Obesity

• Diabetes

• Epidemics (i.e. Tuberculosis, infections, COVID-19)

• Vaccinations

• Addictions (opioid, alcoholism, smoking,..)

• Mental Health

• Climate and Environmental Health (pollution, flooding, droughts, ...)

• Immigrant Health

• Healthcare access and health equity

• Health effects of violence (incl. gun violence, domestic violence, or hate crimes)

• Healthcare costs

• Sustainability in healthcare

• Artificial Intelligence/biotechnology and healthcare 

• Social determinants of health (environment, social status, racial disparities, minorities...)

Sample questions

Public health:

• What are the major health challenges in your country or city (e.g., AIDS, diabetes, obesity, tuberculosis, aging, mental health, eating disorders, etc.)? How are they addressed?

• Does your country have problems with rising health care costs?

• Does your country face any epidemics (infections, drug addictions, alcoholism)? How does it affect medical professionals?

• Share your thoughts on socioeconomic factors on health in your country.

• What are your thoughts on environmental health factors (pollution and asthma, water and hygiene, climate change and health)?
